How much does laser marking cost?

Basic marking (text, serial numbers, batch codes) costs from £0.60 to £2.00 per piece. Custom designs such as logos, graphics, barcodes and QR codes cost from £3.50 to £10.00 per piece. A set-up fee of £15.00 applies per batch received, and special lower prices apply to large quantities. The final price depends on part size, marking time and material, so send us your details for an exact quote.

What is your minimum order quantity?

One piece. We mark single prototypes and one-off items as readily as large production runs, and we have marked as many as 660,000 parts in a single job for the UK MoD.

How long does laser marking take?

Turnaround is typically 48 hours for customers anywhere in the UK. For local Sheffield customers, parts received before noon are typically processed and dispatched the same day. We respond to quote requests within 24 hours.

Do you offer free samples?

Yes. We offer free sample marking on all enquiries, so you can check the result on your own material before committing to a batch.

What materials can you laser mark?

We mark metals (stainless steel, titanium, aluminium, anodised aluminium, brass, copper, bronze, chrome, Inconel, hardened and tool steels, precious metals), polymers (ABS, PEEK, nylon, POM, polyamide, polyurethane, PETG, silicone), and other materials including ceramics, composites, carbon fibre, rubber, resin, epoxy, circuit boards and layered labels. See our gallery of marked materials for examples.

Are there materials that cannot be laser marked?

Yes, a few. Whether a material can be marked depends on how well it absorbs the laser wavelength, not on laser power, so some materials simply will not react. If you are unsure, tell us the material or send a sample and we will test it and tell you honestly what is achievable.

What is the difference between engraving, etching and marking?

People use these words loosely, but a laser can produce six distinct results: engraving, engraving with colour change, surface marking, foaming, layer removal and surface melting. Which one is possible depends on the material and laser settings. You only need to tell us the look you want and we will choose the right process.

Is laser marking permanent?

Laser marks are made in or on the material itself, so unlike ink, paint or labels they do not rub off in normal use. Durability depends on the type of mark and the material, so tell us how the part will be used (for example cleaning, sterilisation or abrasion) and we will advise.

Can you mark serial numbers, QR codes and Data Matrix codes?

Yes. We mark serial numbers, batch numbers, traceability codes, QR codes and Data Matrix codes, as well as logos, text and graphics. Codes can be unique per part, and we can mark ATEX and CE certification plates, nameplates and safety signage.

Do you mark medical devices to UDI requirements?

Yes. We mark medical instruments, implants and devices, including UDI Data Matrix codes, on materials such as stainless steel, titanium and PEEK. See our medical laser marking page for details.

Do you work with aerospace and defence customers?

Yes. We provide permanent identification and serialisation for aerospace and defence components, including work for the UK MoD. See our aerospace laser marking page, or our industrial laser marking page for automotive, tooling and manufacturing parts.

Can you mark parts at our premises?

Yes. On-site laser marking is available anywhere in the UK, which suits large or fixed parts that are difficult to transport. Contact us with the part size, quantity and location for a quote.

How do I get a quote, and what do you need from me?

Use the enquiry form below or call us. Tell us the material, quantity, what you want marked (text, logo, code), any deadline and special requirements. If you have artwork, send it, and vector files or high-resolution images work best; if not, we can work from your text or a sketch. We reply with a quote within 24 hours.

Do you work with customers outside Sheffield?

Yes. We serve customers across the whole UK and beyond. Send your parts by courier and we typically return them within 48 hours. Local Sheffield customers can also call us or drop off parts directly.

Do you personalise gifts, trophies and jewellery?

Yes. As well as industrial work, we personalise gifts, trophies, memorabilia, branded corporate items and jewellery, from a single bespoke piece to larger runs.
